It’s only when he’s actually back in the room and has gotten the calendar pinned onto the wall (next to the one Rachel uses to remember important days) that Tobias realizes that he forgot to get a pen or a marker or anything to write with from the bar. He’s not sure he can go back down immediately, so he begins rummaging around the suite.
It’s quickly driven home how, well, inhuman a life he and Rachel lead. There just aren’t that many things that most people take for granted around. No pens. No tape. No... well, none of the little things.
So he makes a mental note (his only option since there’s nothing to write with) to get something next time he’s in the bar.
He glances at the calendar and takes a deep breath, trying not to think too far ahead because that ‘next time’ won’t be so far off.
Breathing only helps so much, though. So Tobias walks hurriedly over to the doors to the balcony and steps outside. A minute later, a red-tailed hawk soars out over the trees, all signs of nervousness gone as if they’d never been.
